The last time we had this problem we were running Mac OS X on a Macbook (see Fixing a HyperTerminal in Mac OS X). This time I am running Ubuntu 64-bit Linux 10.04 native on a Dell Precision T5400 having a serial IO-port.
When searching for terminal emulation software I found the following candidates:
The minicom program I found too complicated to setup. The cutecom program didn't compile on my 64-bit Linux machine.The only one left was GtkTerm.
After connecting the serial IO-cable to the evaluation board and to the serial-IO port on the computer I started the GTKterm program and powered up the board. When pressing the System ACE reset button the following text was displayed:
